Day trading refer to practice of buying and selling financial instruments( stocks) in the same trading day. All the stocks purchased in that day are sold before the market closes in the same day. People participating in day trading are called as active traders or day traders.

Most common type of financial instrument in day trading are stocks, stock options, currencies and many of future contracts such as equity index futures, interest rate futures and commodity futures.

Example Of a day Trading
In this example, we will use the s&p500. To know the price of S&P500, you would either log in to your account online, or call the bookmaker and check today’s price. Assume that you get the price 4000-4100. This means that it will be 4000 to place a sell bet, and 4100 to place a buy bet.
Now lets say that you think that the S&P500 is looking good today, and you think that it’s market is raising, you would place a buy bet at 4100. You could for example place $5 a point at 4100. If the S&P500 rose to 4200, and you closed the bet out, you would be $500 in profit. This means $5 × 180 points. On the other hand if the market went against you, and dropped to 4000, you would loose $500.
If you thought that the market isn’t looking so pretty today, you would place a sell bet. The mechanics are exactly the same as a buy bet, only reversed.
