It cannot be overemphasized that there exists a big difference between trading and investing in stocks. On one hand, when you trade stocks, you hold on to the assets for a short-term period from just a few days to a few months, even less than an hour in the case of day trading. On the other hand, investing in stocks means holding on to the assets for long periods of time, often spanning decades.

Stock trading tips are often geared at making a profit in the shortest amount of time possible. Thus, you will observe that the following tips emphasize fast reaction and decision times as well as regular monitoring of market movements and company directions.

You must learn to use several charts using different time periods for all of the stocks being traded in your account. This way, you will be able to see the bigger picture of the stock market. For example, if Stock A appears to be on the upward swing from the 60, 8 and 3 charts, you must look at the 1-minute chart to see the latest development before making your decision. The general rule is that fighting the trend in the longer time periods will be detrimental to your profit goals.

One of the most notable stock trading tips for beginners is to invest in lots of a hundred first before becoming a more daring investor with a thousand lots. Your psychological health will not take a beating with the knowledge that your precious money is being traded within a safer number.

You should also formulate and follow an entry and exit plan. Basically, if your plan states that a 0 profit in a single trade for a particular set of stocks is sufficient, sell at that point even when you foresee future value appreciation. Conversely, you should not allow a losing trade to keep on even when you expect the market to appreciate – 6 times out of 10 it will not.

Last but not least, you should look at the direction of the futures especially if you are trading in NASDAQ precisely because stocks will usually move in the same direction as the futures. The general rule is that do not go long when the futures are showing a strong downward trend and vice versa for going short.

Ultimately, these stock trading tips will only be of use to your trading strategy when you understand how the stock market works in general and how the forces outside of the stock market influence its direction. This will take time, practice and experience so get to it as early as possible.

Well I am in high school and love to trade. I am not a good student so i know im not going to be a doctor,lawyer and that stuff. I am a junior and have been investing/trading futures stocks and options for over 3 years now with great results. I don’t think its luck because i do use a strategy and a good one i kind of created from all the other pundits strategies and just experience. I am a discretionary trader. So i decided that i want to do this at home being self employed for a living. My questions are how many other people make a career doing this? Are they successful (millionaires)? My guidance and I talked about it and she even agreed a lot of trader drop out of HS or college and make millions! I have read a ton of books and i KNOW my strategy works in bull and bear markets last year year before that i made money and even this read after taking a 20% draw down i came back with my high for the year! I can control my emotions which is important in this business from what i hear. I have instinct i can just Sense when a stocks going to move and even if im wrong i cut my losses! I use stop limit orders, trailing stops and limit orders to execute my trades. So is this a smart decision? to pursue a dream life of trading??? Me i just want a nice mansion in NJ nice cars cloths etc. and a lot of traveling around the world.
ok i read security analysis and the intelligent investors and i must say graham is too old school those methods just dont work anymore dude… trading makes money daytrading makes even more quick cash. bottom line i know how to invest but investing is pointless unless you have over 50 million to invest it willl take you forever to get 50 Mil investing like graham and buffet just isnt in my interest..
thanks but you know its interesting because i did this personalilty test in career ed in high school and the thing i got got me really happy yet weird approx. only 1% of the american population scored it its perfectionist.. it also said most likly to become a millionaire and a good career would be analyst or trader sooo yeah the fact that ive been wanting to do this for many years and just last year i took this test and got that motivated me and this year is by far my best year! i come from a very poor country and stuff soo that i have this chance i have to take it ya know? and im used to living with little money which always helps ! i am also well aware that some traders lose maybe 80% in just weeks or months but they make it back its the traders who stick with it who make the big bucks in the long run… however even during this crash i only lost 20% despite being fully invested because i use trailing stops or stop loss orders… to help prevent from losing profits … i can make it
ya know the funny thing everyday that i skip school to trade stocks i make a lot of money! a lot more than i would being in school hahaha sure im missing earth science and language arts and math but im making more money than some students do their entire year working part time hahahaha
and i usually read 2 or 3 books a month.. on investing or trading im learning both things because i know once you reach a certain level you cant just trade all the time you have to invest..

Stock trading is a profession by itself. Great care has to be exercised and caution is the right word. Do not dump all savings in stock market only. Choose a variety of Instruments for raising your returns with a mixed portfolio. Always keep your stocks as watch dog keeping day to day happenings and cash them at appropriate opportunity.

Where the fundamentals of a company are good,do not dispose off but wait and watch. they are very good for a long term investment. this is the right time to buy some very good stock where the fundamentals are very good. Though there may be temporariry low prices but good to take advantage and invest in them provided you have funds and your limits on stock markets are available.

First, do Search engine research for all current news about the firm we intend adding to our Portfolio in the press, look out for issues pertaining to new contract signed or revoked, creditors rating of the firm, litigation and etc. The second approach is to visit the firm, listen to conversation at the reception, pick the brain of the workers. Ask questions. Is the company retrenching? Watch out for new renovation works in progress, new fleet of cars and equipment purchased. Is the firm introducing new products? Are the Employees happy and motivated? Answers to these questions can give us a clue as to the direction the company is going. The result of such visit could be quite revealing and it will help to confirm our decision to invest in that organization or not.

But, before you ask me why all these? My simple answer to that question is a big “YES”.The additional effort you put for such investigation can not be compared to the attendant consequences of a failed investment. To buttress my argument, hear this: There was a firm that was once listed in the stock exchange and was doing well in the market.

Every day people bought and sold this shares. But a day came, an intelligent investor visited the company and discovered to his chagrin, that the company’s gate was under lock with over grown weeds for the past few months. Before the regulators got to know about it, many of the investors have suffered various degree of losses. It’s what a firm does now that finds expression in her end of year financial report. Be a smart investor and do your stock investing wisely.

What the heck is the ‘underlying product’ at a specific price, and future date am I agreeing to buy or sell when I trade Stock Index Futures. I figure a E-mini Futures Contract for a commodity such as corn or soy beans derives it’s value from the ‘underlying product” the commodity itself hence the contract is a derivative. So my question is …On what asset, is a flipping statistic such as a ‘stock index’ based. I need to be enlightened Thanks?

If you don’t know then you shouldn’t be doing it. The commonly traded indexes are the Dow Jones Industrials, a basket of thirty companies, and the Standard & Poors 500, which last I saw was only 498 as they had to drop a couple and with this market flux hadn’t announced (or figured out) the replacements.

You can do the same with some ETFs called DIA and SPY. To hedge your bets in the indexes, may I suggest you buy the ETFs as a store of value should you go too close to the wire on the futures and be called to deliver. The ETFs will hold those stocks and their relative value (NAV) so you sell the ETFs, buy the component stocks, and then you can deliver if called for.

Better yet, just buy the ETFs and leave the leveraged stuff alone until you are more ready.

So my total was around 604,600. The future i bought was CLV6.NYM and i bought it on 9/26/2006. Im not able to Trade this stock with anyone and im just interested what is goin on with it. futures- ES is liquid, YM is less liquid, NQ, is lessl liquid but all three are tradeable. Other futures I don’t know.

Options, I don’t think about volume, I think about open interest and the spread. I need open interest to be more than 1000 and spread to be very tight.

She buys long and creates pressure on the prices so that they increase. If her speculations go wrong, she spreads rumors that the prices are going to increase (she does bull campaigns also called rigging the market.) 2. Bear

A bear speculator anticipates a fall in prices. She enters into a contract to sell securities at the current price with the aim of buying them at a future date when their prices fall. She is a pessimist. If prices fall as per her speculations, she buys them back.

This is termed as selling short. Unlike a bull speculator who keeps her head upward, a bear speculator keeps her head down. She makes efforts of bringing prices down in the stock exchange market through selling pressure termed as bear raid. When her speculations go wrong, a bear squeeze occurs. If the bear speculators dominate the market, then it’s termed as bearish.

3. Lame Duck

A lame duck is a desperate bear speculator. She is desperate because she had committed herself in an agreement to sell securities to a buyer and the shares are unavailable in the stock market. The buyer is not willing to postpone the deal.

4. A Slag

A slag speculator applies for securities with the aim that the prices of shares are going to be listed at a premium price on the stock exchange market. She eventually sells the securities when prices increase. She creates false demands by sending a number of applications under different names. A slag speculator is a premium hunter. Question by Justanian: Is Trading Futures in Stock Markets risky even for an experienced Trader?
Normally when we buy a future we set a target to book profits. But, when the market falls we are loath to put a stop loss and we loose a big chunk of money. Last year I made a profit of about fifty thousand dollars playing in future. This year all that proft got wiped off in just three months. Should I stop dabbling in futures?
