I was thinking about some website-payment system, where you earn monthly interest to the money you put in your account.
Pretty much like Paypal, but when you put some money in your account, at the end of the month +5% are added to your money. Just like a bank account, you can even call it an “online bank account”.
Not only that, but using this method is possible your online payments to be completely free of fees(NOT as paypal where every payment grabs you significant percent of the money you send…).
You probably wonder, how the monthly interest rate of 5% is added, if this is not some piramid??? The answer could be: like the banks do it…the money you put in your account is traded by the best US funds, pro stock/forex dealers. The best dealers make about 15%-20% profit per month, far enough to give you your 5% and leave the rest for thir own and the company profits.

I am efiling taxes for 2009- section investment; In 2009 I bought and sold many stocks using different brokers and I had a loss of around ,000;

Now the online system ask me to detail each and every trade, date acquired and sold it;

I did around more than 200 trades, : do I need to list all of them? ( it will take more than 10 online tax pages,)

Yes, you do.

Technically, you have to detail each “sale”, not each purchase.

It gets complicated when you sell a large number of stocks from three or four different purchases. In that case, you have to separate them according to their original cost, so you could have three or four lines from the same sale.

(Cheer up: the IRS just issued a ruling for 2010 that brokerages like Ameritrade and E-Trade are now required to issue 1099-B statements that include cost basis.)

Question by GREAT_AMERICAN: Congress is speeding down the road to ruin with trade protectionism and a raft of untimely tax hikes?
Seventy-seven years ago, members of Congress erected a tariff wall aimed at protecting American business concerns. The result was a stock market crash followed by drastic retaliatory tariffs and a shutdown of the global trading system. The 1932 Revenue Act made matters worse by massively raising marginal tax rates on domestic incomes. These blunders set the stage for the Depression and world war that followed.

Current members of Congress appear to have let their history books collect dust: A raft of anti-China currency and tariff legislation is now widely supported by both political parties as the exigencies of political grandstanding subvert the ideals of sound policy. At the same time, Chinese government officials have threatened to dump some of the government’s trillion in U.S. Treasury securities if Congress continues its currency bashing and tariff threats.

This fiscal folly couldn’t come at a worse time. Financial markets have been reeling over the last several weeks as hedge funds deleverage from wrong-way bets on mortgage products. It certainly doesn’t help matters that a tone-deaf Congress, led by a bi-partisan coalition of the economically obtuse, is attempting to advance legislation that would raise tax rates on investment companies as part of a “fix” for the alternative minimum tax (AMT).

Has anyone in Congress ever stopped to contemplate why London has once again become the financial capital of the world? Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the rest of the world is lowering corporate tax rates and trying to moderate regulations while the U.S. is stuffing Sarbanes-Oxley down the throat of its businesses.

If that weren’t bad enough, the 2001-03 tax cuts on incomes and capital are essentially on the chopping block, set to expire in several years time unless Congress and the president act to extend them. The current Congress isn’t disposed to extending the tax cuts, while online futures trading points to a Democrat sweep in 2008. In other words, there’s a high probability that tax rates are going up.

Some politicians argue that the current anti-trade sentiment has been driven by wage inequality and poor income growth, “tax cuts for the rich,” and high energy and food prices for the poor. But the data refute this. Personal income has grown at an average pace of 6.2 percent since 2004, despite large swings in reported GDP growth; personal income is up 6.1 percent year-over-year as of June, right in line with the average of the last few years. And thanks to a low unemployment rate and a tight labor market, real non-supervisory wages are growing faster today than they were at this stage of the last cycle (1.6 percent vs. 1.3 percent, year-over-year).

In fact, low-end (non-supervisory) real wages have grown at about twice the pace for this cycle compared to the first 23 quarters of the last expansion. A broader measure of real non-financial compensation per hour also shows superior wage growth during this cycle (1 percent per annum average vs. a 0.3 percent per annum average at this stage of the last cycle). So to call this a “wage-less” expansion is utter nonsense, despite the fact real GDP growth has averaged 2.7 percent per annum this cycle versus a superior 3.3 percent average at this stage of the last cycle.

Attention protectionist stooges: Since the implementation of NAFTA in 1994, real non-supervisory wages have grown at an average pace of 1.2 percent per annum, triple the 1971-2007 average of 0.4 percent per annum. Inflation-adjusted household net worth has jumped .2 trillion since NAFTA was implemented while non-farm payrolls have increased by 24.9 million. Manufacturing output, far from falling, actually stands at a record high, and is up 62 percent since 1994.

Undoubtedly some have been left behind by the global economy. But free trade, China, and Wal-Mart for that matter have dramatically increased the standard of living for most people, just as protectionism, a trade war, tax hikes on investment and work, and the absence of Wal-Mart would sink living standards for most people.

While the global boom continues on the back of pro-growth policies around the world, Congress is speeding down the road to ruin with trade protectionism and a raft of untimely tax hikes. It’s time to take a detour and think about the hugely anti-growth consequences of turning our backs on the global economy and pro-growth tax policy.

The USA “Patriot Act” requires a certified Tax Identification number issued by the IRS and positive identification of all US brokerage accounts. It is going to be a lot of hassles, but doable, (the IRS will require 35% of all withdraws from the account to be withheld from you for possible payment of US income taxes due). Payments will be made by a check from a New York bank. It would be a lot cheaper and easier to just get account in your own country and then buy and sell US stocks from that account.

Hi, I am a newbie in stock exchange market and have the following questions.
What’s the difference between NYSE/AMEX and NASDAQ?
as I know, NASDAQ is a automated system that help buy/sell stock automatic. however, what does it mean by NYSE listed or NASDAQ listed stock, isn’t it we are trading the same stock no matter what system they are at? if I buy/sell a stock (e.g. FBTX – NYSE stock) over the online broker account, let’s say tdameritrade, is that means I am trading over the automated system, if so, it is a NASDAQ system? kind of confuse.

my second question is: I got an answer for telling whether a stock is NYSE/AMEX or NASDAQ stock base on its symbol,
1,2,3 letter – NYSE and 4 letter was NASDAQ, however, why the FBTX is a NYSE stock?

As for the odd-symboled stock, some companies move up. NASDAQ has a largely small technical company representation. NYSE expects some solidness and stability that NASDAQ doesn’t. Sometimes, then, when a company feels it is sufficiently “ready for prime time” they move up. Think of the exchanges as major league baseball. Chicago, Boston, and Philadelphia have minor league teams while NYSE and NASDAQ are the majors. Just the same, if you were a good baseball player, would you rather play for the Yankees, or the Mets? I have noticed that Windows on my laptop operates with constant attacks and you read about viruses constantly and malware etc on Windows. There are times when software shuts down or is inaccessible. I understand your concerns, but the main issue shoould be to lock your windows system down. You can switch to Linux or Mac as these OS’s are not ‘targeted’ as much as windows, but you have many other issues at that point.

Just learn how to lock your windows system down, and dont do questionable things on your computer like downloading free music/movies/software. You will be “as safe” as you would be on another OS.

I’ve been experimenting with some stock trading online. My question is how I am taxed if I decide to sell one stock at a gain and use the proceeds to buy other stock. Is there a way to avoid tax like you can if you sell a house and use the proceeds to buy another one?

Assuming I’ve only owned it for 6 months, is the entire thing just hit with income tax?

Also, I’m a full time student (in michigan, if that changes anything), so I’m in the lowest tax bracket.

Thanks for the help, I’m new to all of this. The tax system is frickin confusing…

Unfortunately there is no way to shield gains as there is in residential real estate. There are essentially two tax categories for gains in securities – 1) Short-term capital gains (1 year or less) and 2) Long term capital gains.

Short- term capital gains are taxed at your ordinary income tax rate while Long-term capital gains are taxed at either 15% or 0% (starting in 2008) depending on your tax bracket. These numbers are highly subject to be changed.

Question by nedmiden: What is the purpose of the settlement date in online stock trading?
If I bought 1000 of stock XYZ for the 00 total in my account on Monday and sold the same amount on Monday (now with a total of 00 in my account), why do I have to wait until Thursday to be able to buy again with the 00 in my account? Shouldn’t I be able to buy and sell and buy again all on Monday? Is there a way around this system without just adding more money to the account?

I believe its a federal trade commission regulation to deter fraud. They usually included that information in whatever paperwork you got when you registered. maybe contact the FTC for detailed info. I felt the same way, i thought i was going to day trade, then found out i had to wait until the first sale cleared. You can trade on margin if you don’t want to wait, but its a loan with interest, so it may not be worth it.

In order to carry out online stock trading, you need to make sure that you choose a good broker, preferably one that has got good tools to help you with your technical analysis so that you are not just relying on his stock tips alone. You will have heard many terminologies used and the jargon can be very confusing. With a little bit or research, you can have yourself fully understanding all of these concepts. There are many types of trades that you can tell your broker to place for you. Each one will be suited for different scenarios. You need to learn when to use them and understand what they mean.

If you want to buy a number of shares in company X at any given price, you will place what is called a market order. Your broker will execute your buy or sell order immediately and pick up the shares for you at whatever is the current market price. In some cases, you may only be prepared to pay a particular price for a stock and nothing more, or you may only be willing to sell it a specific price and nothing less. If this is the case, you would place a limit order. However, the order may never get executed if the price moves away from what you want. Online Stock Trading Prices

An All or None (AON) order is what you would use if you were interested in a stock, only if you can get a specific number of shares. In other words, if you want a block of 100 shares in “X” company and you issue an AON, your broker will only buy if he can get that exact amount. If he cannot, he will not buy any shares at all. The order can remain until such time that the entire block can be moved. It is useful when you are looking to sell or buy shares at one price in one go, or if you are selling covered calls. A Fill or Kill order must be filled completely on first attempt or cancelled completely.

A stop order works by automatically selling or buying a stock when it passes or falls below a specific stated price. As soon as the stop price is reached, a market order is given and the stock will be sold or bought at whatever the current going market price is. If the market is moving fast, it is possible that the exact stop price may be passed. All major brokerage firms provide their clients with on-line services, including trading platforms, latest market & financial news and research.

Customer need to select the site that is best for them. Traders have requirements in a site, while investors have other requirements. I use Scottrade for trading equities, Thinkorswim for trading options and Fidelity for investments.

Although most sites are geared to general securities and commodities, however customers may have special needs for the types of products they trade, and the markets in which they trade.

It seems that the most popular firms for on-line investing all of which provide excellent platforms and services are; Scottrade; Chas.Schwab; TDAmeritrade; Fidelity; E-Trade and Thinkorswim. I personally use Scottrade for equity trading, Thinkorswim for my option trading and Fidelity for investing.

Just select the site you feel comfortable with, and not one that someone else likes. HOWEVER, there are not too many brokerage firms will permit you to open an account for 0, since you will need more than this to invest properly and there’s no way you can “trade: with only 0
